WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Shaw’s Supermarket Inc. has recalled a brand of its in-store baked brownies because they contain peanuts, which are not listed as an ingredient on the package.
Allergic reactions to peanuts sometimes can be fatal.
Shaw’s spokesman Terry Donilan said the mistake on the label was made by a contractor who supplies the brownies to Shaw’s. He said a customer brought the mistake to the company’s attention, but declined to elaborate when asked if the customer had an allergic reaction.
The company announced Friday that it removed “Bakery Brownies Blondie” six-packs from shelves at Shaw’s and Star Market, which the company also owns. Customers who purchased the brownies can return them for a refund.
The UPC on the recalled packages of Brownies Blondie is 0 045674 331593.
Anyone with questions or concerns can call Shaw’s at (888) 431-7429.
Shaw’s Supermarkets Inc. manages 185 Shaw’s and Star Market stores in the six New England states.
