Neighbors’ concerns spark Brewer drug raid

Community action led to a drug raid Saturday evening in Brewer.

After neighbors reported concern about suspicious activity at a Rinfret Drive address, Brewer police began surveillance of the apartment.

Sgt. Chris Martin said the department then received a search warrant Saturday night and quickly executed it.

Eight Brewer officers and Sgt. Bill Birch from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department took part in the raid.

Martin said the raid led to the arrests of John Dionne, 33, and Peter Honey, 32, both of Brewer, and Nathan Dilworth, 24, of Bangor.

Each was summoned for drug possession. Dionne was arrested on a violation of bail charge; Honey was charged with violation of conditional release; and Dilworth was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Police seized usable amounts of marijuana and powdered drugs and a large quantity of drug paraphernalia.

“The residents of this community have given a clear and resounding message,” Martin said, “that this type of illegal activity will not be tolerated.”

A passer-by wielding a crowbar scared off a man assaulting two other people Saturday afternoon in Bangor.

At 4:30 p.m. Officers James Dearing and Myron Warner arrived at a Union Street address to find the passer-by still holding the crowbar.

The man said he was driving by when he saw a man punch a woman and throw her to the ground. The driver found a crowbar and used it to scare off the man, later identified by police as Jeffrey Geaghan, 31, of Bangor.

Dearing said Geaghan appeared to be intoxicated.

The woman who had been punched said Geaghan assaulted her and another man inside the apartment, going “berserk” and punching them.

Dearing noted that both victims appeared to be intoxicated.

Dearing summoned Geaghan for both assaults.
