CAPE CORAL, Fla. – The University of Southern Maine Huskies bounced back from an early 4-2 loss to Wisconsin-Whitewater, beating Lawrence 7-3 and Middlebury 4-1 later in a busy, three-game Monday in softball action.
In the opener, Allison Yaun’s RBI triple in the fourth put WW ahead for good. Darci Holland led Southern Maine with an RBI double.
In the second game, the Huskies scored four times in the sixth to beat Lawrence. Renee Heath stroked a three-run double and Kristen Tong had an RBI single in the rally.
Heath also singled twice for USM, while Kristi Steward doubled and singled and Ashley Woodcock singled twice behind winner Kari Vance.
In the finale, Katie Mainville fired a three-hitter, striking out 10, to paced the Huskies. Emily Forbes had two singles for USM, which scored three in the seventh with the aid of two errors.

Colby gains opening split
At Fort Myers, Fla., the White Mules opened their softball season with a 7-1 victory over Massachusetts Institute of Technology, then dropped a 4-3 decision to Hamline College.
In the opener, Lauren Olmsted pitched a two-hitter, striking out four and walking one for Colby of Waterville. Michaelyn Bortolotti and Wendy Bonner each had three hits and Annette Caswell had two.
In the second game, Bonner posted two hits for Colby.

USM splits pair of Florida games
At Fort Myers, Fla., the University of Southern Maine defeated Union 13-6 and fell to Coe 3-2 on Monday.
In the first game, Paul Tedesco had a double, a triple and a single for three RBIs to help lead Southern Maine to the victory.
Brandon Brewer added an RBI double while Brian Marshall had a two-run double and Tyler Delorme chipped in with an RBI single. Drew Palmer added a two-run single.
In the second game, Eric Hemesath scored on an error after Kyle Bassett hit a fly ball to score from first base and give Coe the win.
Andy Lang hit a single to send home pinch runner Pat McCarthy and tie the game in the seventh for USM. Brian Marshall added an RBI single.
