FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University of Southern Maine earned a pair of softball victories Wednesday, beating Thomas College of Waterville 8-0 and downing Wisconsin-Whitewater 6-5.
In the first game, Kari Vance and Katie Mainville combined on a two-hit shutout for Southern Maine of Gorham.
Sarah McLean rapped a two-run single to highlight a four-run fourth for the Huskies. Kristi Steward, Darci Holland and Natasha Jackson each had an RBI in the inning.
In the second game, Jackson scored from third on an errant throw in the bottom of the seventh to give the Huskies the winning edge.
Ashley Woodock drove in a run with a bunt single, and Sarah McLean scored on bases-loaded walk, all during a three-run sixth. Jackson scored the first run on a passed ball.

At Fort Myers, Fla., North Central held the Mules to one run on seven hits in the win.
Shannon Emerson doubled and tripled for Colby of Waterville and Kate Hurd added two singles and an RBI.

Thomas earns split
At Fort Myers, Fla., the Thomas College Terriers split two games, blanking Lawrence 14-0 in the first and losing to Mount Mercy 3-1 in the second.
In the first game, Chris Tetrault pitched a six-hit shutout to pace the Terriers.
Lance Haynes had a double and two singles and Sean Brawn contributed two singles.
In the second game, Brawn laced a double and Josh Porter had an RBI single for the Terriers’ only hits.
