I-95 work to begin earlier than planned

BANGOR – Beginning Sunday morning, March 30, traffic will be reduced to one lane southbound and one lane northbound between Exits 46 and 48 on Interstate 95 in order to aid rehabilitation work on the Kenduskeag Bridge, according to the Maine Department of Transportation. This is one day earlier than originally reported.

MDOT officials are seriously concerned about traffic congestion stemming from this project. They are predicting rush-hour backups during the next several weeks that could reach up to 21/2 miles in each direction. Specifically, April backups are projected to occur northbound from 8 to 10 a.m. and 5 to 6 p.m. Southbound delays will occur from 3 to 6 p.m.

For safety reasons, DOT is asking motorists to avoid this section of I-95 whenever possible until the lane closures are discontinued at the end of June.
