BANGOR – The 65th National Folk Festival’s organizers are recruiting hundreds of volunteers to produce the mammoth, three-day event expected to draw more than 80,000 visitors to Bangor’s waterfront.

Volunteers are needed to assist festival organizers before, during and after the festival on Aug. 22-24. Dozens of positions are available in areas that include parking patrol, bucket brigade, transportation, information booth, safety, hospitality, vending, registration and surveying.

“I expect at least as many volunteers to sign up as last year, if not more,” said Mary Turner, volunteer coordinator for the 2003 festival. “The more volunteers we have in the effort, the more each and every volunteer can enjoy and share in the experience of being at the festival. It is sure to be a memorable experience.”

Volunteers must be at least 16 to volunteer without a guardian and between 12 and 15 with a guardian. All will receive a festival T-shirt that is not available for retail sale and an invitation to attend the exclusive Saturday night celebration organized specifically for the volunteers, artists and staff.

Volunteer registration forms are available online at www.nationalfolkfestival.com or by contacting the National Folk Festival office at 30 Main St., Suite 220 in Bangor, 992-2630. Requests for forms may also be e-mailed to infor@nationalfolkfestival.com.
