Chris Ferraro of the Portland Pirates and Eric Healey of the Manchester Monarchs have been named the co-winners of the Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award as the AHL players who best exemplify the qualities of sportsmanship, determination and dedication to hockey. The award if voted on by players and members of the media.

Ferraro, a former standout at the University of Maine, missed most of the 2001-02 season and some of this season caring for his wife Jennifer, who lost a 13-month battle with cancer on Nov. 5, 2002. The native of Port Jefferson, N.Y., returned to the Pirates’ lineup Dec. 12 and has been one of the team’s most consistent offensive producers with 19 goals and 31 assists in 53 games.
