AMHERST, Mass. – Massachusetts pitching held the Black Bears to five hits in two games Tuesday as the Minutemen picked up a 6-1 win in the opener and a 5-0 shutout in the nightcap of a doubleheader.

The second game was shortened to five innings due to darkness.

In the first game, Kaila Holtz pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks. Brandi Cross hit a two-run homer and knocked in two more runs on a bases-loaded single.

Jess Brady singled twice to lead the Bears.

In the second game, Kelli Arnold allowed just two Maine hits and struck out four. Cross singled twice and drove in a run.

Amy Kuhl and Brittany Cheney hit a single each for the Bears.

Huskies drop two

At South Portland, the Southern Maine Huskies lost two games to Bridgewater State, 19-6 in the first game and 6-0 in the second.

The second game was called after five innings due to darkness.

In the opener, the Bears scored 11 runs in the sixth to pull away.

Mike Richard launched a double and home run, driving in four runs for the winners. Jason Arraiol collected four singles and an RBI.

Tyler Delorme doubled and drove in two runs for the Huskies.

In the second game, Jordan Richards pitched a one-hit shutout for Bridgewater State.

Chad Cambra knocked an RBI single during a five-run first inning for the Bears.

Delorme had a double to account for Southern Maine’s only hit.
