ORONO – University of Maine senior Lucas Lawson has signed a contract to play professional hockey in the New York Rangers organization.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound forward, was immediately assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League. Contract terms for the Braeside, Ontario native were not disclosed.

Lawson was the Black Bears’ second-leading scorer with 21 goals and 16 assists in 39 games. The second team Hockey East all-conference pick led all conference players with 17 goals in conference games and is tied for fifth in the nation with six game-winning goals. His last game for Maine was his 128 straight.

Lawson, who played junior hockey for the Kanata Valley Lasers in the Central Junior Hockey League, wound up his Maine career with 50 goals and 43 assists.
