Noted economist Wescott to speak at UMaine Orono

ORONO – Robert F. Wescott, a senior adviser on international economic policy in the Clinton administration, and former chief economist on the Council of Economic Advisers will present a lecture and answer questions Tuesday, April 15, at the University of Maine.

The lecture is open to the public and will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Soderberg Lecture Hall. Wescott will speak on “Rethinking Free Market Solutions: Dealing with Financial Scandals, Maintaining Forward Momentum for Free Trade, and Addressing Backlashes against Globalization.”

The event is being presented by the University of Maine Department of Economics, Maine Business School and Canadian American Center with support from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Distinguished Lecture Series.

Wescott has been involved in policy formulation in many key areas, including reform of international financial institutions, U.S. policy toward Russia and China, bilateral policy toward the G-7 countries and major developing countries, and domestic macroeconomic policy. The author of numerous articles on international economic policy, he is currently a consultant with major financial institutions and companies. He also is a native of Gorham.
