Maine has lost enough small businesses and enough money has left the state. What we don’t need is a legislator such as Rep. Matt Dunlap, D-Old Town, trying to come up with anything else to put a ban on.
Hunting ranches bring a lot of money into the state. As far as the fair chase issue, the animals have 700 to 800 acres to roam. This should be taken into thought when ordering a side of bacon for breakfast. Did the pig have a chance for a fair chase being raised in a 50-foot pen? While having a T-bone steak for supper, ask yourself if the cow had a fair chance before being taken to the slaughterhouse.
What good could come from passing a bill such as LD 300 except personal satisfaction? I’ve never been to a game ranch and don’t plan to, but everyone loves meat and it is an American’s right to choose where to get it. Freedom of choice can’t be banned.
The next proposed ban is on ice fishing in January. Ice fishing has done just fine for more than a century and the ban would also be a big loss of money for the state. What will we think of next to ban? Maybe snowmobiling or camping?
Let’s try to do something positive for the state and bring money in instead of drive it out. With all the negative things to bring up against the people of Maine, all I can say is good luck next election.
