BANGOR – Penobscot Theatre Company/Maine Shakespeare Festival has announced the start of its fifth annual “A Kingdom for Some Cloth” drive. For the past four seasons, the Maine Shakespeare Festival has benefited by the donations of fabrics and sewing notions, many of which become part of costumes for the summer season.
This year, the theater is seeking immediate donations of fabric, sewing supplies and related materials. Topping the “most wanted” list are items such as costume jewelry, feathers, ribbon, trim, twill, seam, hem tape, cloth measuring at least 2 yards (especially sought are pieces of fine fabrics such as satin, velvet, brocade and damask), rough weaves, fur, and vintage patterns.
Donations are needed as soon as possible and will be accepted through the first week of June, when sewing begins on the costumes. The theater will accept donations during box office hours at the Bangor Opera House, 131 Main St., Bangor. Box office hours are from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. All donations are tax-deductible.
The 10th annual Maine Shakespeare Festival runs July 5-Aug. 16 and includes productions of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” and “Macbeth,” the musical “The Fantasticks” by Schmidt and Jones, and “Alice in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll.
