BANGOR – The Bangor YMCA is accepting registrations for upcoming programs, both for spring sessions and for summer camps.
. A youth archery league and lessons are scheduled for 5:15-6 p.m. and 6-6:45 p.m. Thursdays, beginning May 1, at the Taft Street fields. The league is geared for children ages 7-16.
. The Pre-Sporter program for 3- to 5-year-olds is set for 10-10:45 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning April 29. Parent-‘n’-Me Playtime for children ages 6 months to 5 years is set for 10-10:45 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning April 29.
. T-ball is offered to 4- to 6-year-olds, and minor league baseball is available to 5- to 8-year-olds at 5:15 p.m. beginning April 29 at the Taft Street fields.
The YMCA is offering five summer camp programs for children ages 5-17 years old, including resident camp, day camps and adventure camps. Registration is now open for all five camps. Scholarships are available.
Bangor YMCA summer camp programs include:
. Camp Jordan, for children ages 8-14, a resident camp located on 200 acres at Branch Lake in Ellsworth, blends traditional activities such as archery and canoeing with nontraditional activities such as filmmaking and ropes course.
. Camp Peirce Webber, for youth ages 5-12, is a traditional day camp in Hampden with swimming, sports, crafts and short hikes.
. X-Trips Adventures Camp, for ages 14-17, offered through Camp Jordan, provides excitement and challenge with one- week rock climbing, white-water rafting and canoeing trips.
. Camp Mission Possible, a day camp program for third- to sixth-graders that meets at Eastern Maine Technical College, combines creativity and exploration through arts, sports and a trip each week.
. Xtreme Xperience Teen Camp for teens ages 14-17 offers opportunity and adventure with day trips, plus one overnight that goes to the extreme. Participants may choose an adventure theme or a sports theme.

According to a report from The Search Institute, children who attend summer camp “have higher self-esteem, improved skills, more developed goals, are less likely to commit crimes and have better overall well-being.”
