WASHINGTON – The Council for Advancement and Support of Education, or CASE, has announced that Amos Orcutt, president of the University of Maine Foundation, is the recipient of the Commonfund Professional Leadership Award for a foundation with total assets less than $100 million.
The awards recognize individuals who have made great strides in the development and quality of their organizations and provided significant service to the community of affiliated foundations, according to a press release.
Orcutt has been president of the University of Maine Foundation since 1990. He is credited for UM’s decision to establish one of the first donor-advised funds programs.
Orcutt was a founding member of the Society of Institutionally Related Foundations, an organization for which he has served as president and treasurer. He is also a past board member and treasurer of the Planned Giving Group of New England.
Many of the training programs and resources that are available to foundation managers, provided by such organizations as the Association of Governing Boards and CASE, are the result of Orcutt’s advocacy and leadership in the field, said a press release.
