BANGOR – A midafternoon fire Thursday that destroyed a shed and damaged an empty house owned by Shaw’s Supermarkets has been ruled suspicious by fire officials.

Located at 3 Parker St., the house and shed are on a hill behind the Main Street store.

The building’s electrical system has been ruled out as there was no power running to the building, according to Assistant Fire Chief Rick Cheverie. No one was living in the house so the fire remains under investigation, he said.

The Bangor Fire Department arrived to find the shed on fire, and flames were starting to move to the rear wall of the house, according to Cheverie. Firefighters extinguished the fire in 20 minutes, he said.

Bangor police officers blocked off both ends of the street while fire crews tended to the fire. No one was injured in the incident.

Cheverie estimated the damage to the shed at $1,000 and the damage to the house at $7,500.
