BUCKSPORT – Town councilors in a brief session on Thursday extended two separate contracts for hauling demolition debris and snowplowing.

The three-year contract with D.M. & J. Enterprise Inc. for hauling demolition debris to its site in Winterport was approved last year with the condition that it could be extended by mutual agreement. According to Town Manager Roger Raymond, the company has agreed to continue the contract with increases in two areas.

The council approved the company’s request to increase the tipping fee from $70 to $75 per ton and the hauling fee from $70 to $75.

The company hauls demolition debris from the town’s transfer station to its site and has been a good company to work with, according to Raymond. The council approved the contract extension unanimously.

Councilors also approved extending the contract with Wardwell Construction and Trucking Corp. of Orland for plowing snow on Route 46. Raymond told councilors he had received no complaints about the job the contractor had done last year and recommended continuing the contract for the 2003-04 snow season.

The extension includes a 3.5 percent increase, which Raymond said reflects inflation and the increase in fuel prices.

The council also hired the firm of Foster, Carpenter, Black & Co. of Bangor to conduct the town audit for the period from July 1, 2002, to June 30, 2003, at a cost of $7,600. The company has conducted the town audit for a number of years, Raymond said, and is familiar with the town’s bookkeeping system.
