GUILFORD – Two local brothers were arrested late Friday after they allegedly used their motor vehicle to try to run another vehicle off the road before leading police on a high-speed chase.
Christopher Salvucci, 18, and Timothy Salvucci, 27, both of Guilford, were charged with criminal speeding, driving to endanger and eluding a police officer. They will make their initial court appearances June 9 in 13th District Court. Both are free on $300 bail.
The incident began at the Guilford basketball court, when words were exchanged between the two men and two Guilford juveniles, according to Investigator Allen Emerson of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department.
Emerson said the two juveniles, ages 16 and 17, left the basketball court after a verbal exchange but returned later and more words were exchanged with the men. The juveniles then left in their vehicle but were followed closely by the two men, who were in separate vehicles.
At times, the two men allegedly tried to box in the car driven by the juveniles and at other times tried to run the vehicle off the road as it traveled on Route 15 from Guilford to Dover-Foxcroft, according to Emerson.
Contact was made between the vehicle driven by the juveniles and one of the other vehicles more than once, Emerson said. Once in Dover-Foxcroft, the juveniles stopped the vehicle at the Sheriff’s Department and ran inside telling officers that two men had a gun and were trying to kill them. While the juveniles were inside, the two men allegedly took off for their residence on Butter Street in Guilford.
Emerson spotted the two vehicles driving near each other en route to Guilford shortly after he was notified of the incident.
When the officer turned his vehicle around, he said the two men “stepped” on their accelerators and neither stopped, although he had activated his vehicle’s siren and lights. The men were arrested in their driveway. No gun was found, he said.
There may be additional charges as the investigation continues, Emerson said.
