NORWAY – Two women from Stoneham were killed and another was in critical condition after a single-car accident Tuesday on Route 118, police said.

Lillian Sowersby, 78, and Betsy White, 71, died from injuries they suffered when the Ford Aspire they were riding in left the road and hit a tree around 9:30 a.m., officials said.

Sowersby died at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway. White died overnight at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Authorities said the driver of the car, Debra Brown, 42, of Fryeburg, was listed in critical condition Wednesday morning at Central Maine Medical Center.

The cause of the crash was under investigation, Maine State Police Trooper Kyle Tilsley said.
