Braves sweep Fisher at home

BANGOR – Josh Ferguson’s single with one out in the bottom of the eighth delivered Tony Creek with the winning run as Husson College completed its Sunrise Conference doubleheader sweep of Fisher College (Mass.) with 6-5 and 5-4 victories at Winkin Baseball Complex Thursday.

Creek also picked up the win in relief as Husson improved to 14-11 overall and 8-2 in conference play.

Craig Harvey of Bucksport had a pair of doubles and two RBIs for Husson and Ferguson had a pair of hits.

Anthony Arias and Juan Ortiz had a pair of hits apiece for Fisher.

In the opener, Harvey scored on Tony Laprino’s fielder’s choice in the bottom of the ninth to give Husson its come-from-behind victory.

Husson had trailed 5-2 at one point.

Billy Kane doubled and singled for the Braves and Steve Estes drove in two runs.

Jeremy Marion tripled and singled twice for Fisher while Ortiz doubled, singled and knocked in four runs. Ken Olisky also had a pair of hits.

Travis Tripp earned the win in relief for Husson, which stole 11 bases in the twinbill.

Thomas sweeps UM-Farmington

At Farmington, Thomas took two games in a doubleheader, defeating UM-Farmington 10-0 and 11-5.

In the first game, Scott Brawn smacked a home run and four singles for four RBIs while scoring three runs to help power Thomas.

Sean Brawn added a homer and a single for three RBIs while Josh Porter hit a two-run double.

James Writer and Jeff Casavant had two singles apiece for the University of Maine at Farmington.

In the second game, Sean Brawn led the charge with a home run and two singles for four RBIs while Scott Brawn sent home three runners with a home run and a single. Jordan McDonald chipped in with four singles for four RBIs.

John Rutkiewicz had a double and two singles for and RBI while Tom Ventura hit an RBI double and Ben Smith added two singles.

At Salem, Mass., the University of Southern Maine had nine hits against Salem State pitching en route to the Huskies’ seventh straight win.

Erik Kent and Tip Fairchild combined on an eight-hitter for the non-conference win at Palmer Cove Field Thursday. Fairchild and Andy Land each had two singles for USM.

Freshman Dustin Williams allowed five hits, three walks and two earned runs in seven innings while notching six strikeouts. John Cunningham had a double and a single.

USM sweeps Salem State

At Salem, Mass., the University of Southern Maine Huskies got the offense rolling with two, five-inning victories over Salem State College Thursday.

The Huskies, winners of 12 of their last 13 games, banged out 25 hits in the doubleheader.

In the first game, Darci Holland led the way with a triple, two singles, and an RBI in four at-bats. Renee Heath had a pair of doubles and three RBIs. Sophomore righty Melissa Henderson pitched a three-hitter and had six strikeouts.

In the second game, the Huskies scored at least once in each inning. Sarah McLean went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer. Kristen Tong had three singles and three runs in three at-bats. Heath had three singles and freshman Katie Mainville notched her ninth win with a six-hitter and seven strikeouts.

Kelli Driscoll led Salem with three singles while Cindy Gill had two.
