BREWER – A road safety checkpoint at an entrance to Interstate 395 led to the summoning of a Dexter man for driving the wrong way on an access ramp.

Sgt. Chris Martin summoned Chaz Gokas, 20, for possession of a usable amount of marijuana and for operating the wrong way on a one-way road after Gokas’ car approached the roadblock, turned around and drove off the on-ramp at Parkway South about 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Martin said he stopped Gokas near Brewer High School and could smell the drug in his car. A search produced a small bag of marijuana, Martin said.

Officer Tony Pinette arrested Bangor resident Roger Ketch, 43, at the roadblock for operating under the influence. Pinette said he administered field sobriety tests because he could smell alcohol in Ketch’s vehicle.

Martin said he, Pinette and Officers Rich Smith and John Knapp also issued five citations for moving violations and three other drug summonses.
