Bowdoin holds off St. Joseph’s for win

BRUNSWICK – Jimmy Shea’s two-run double highlighted Bowdoin College’s six-run second inning in its 7-6 baseball win over the St. Joseph’s College Monks Friday. Justin King, Jared Lemieux, and Rick LeClerc each added RBI singles in the second and Tom McMahon had a sacrifice fly.

Jesse LaCasse slammed a two-run home run for St. Joe’s of Standish.

Thomas sweeps Lyndon State

At Waterville, Sean Brawn had five hits and knocked in seven runs to help Thomas College sweep Lyndon State College 20-10 and 14-0.

In the first game, Brawn hit a pair of home runs with a double and had six RBIs for Thomas. Ryan O’Connor hit a two-run homer with a double to knock in four runs and Jordan McDonald and Corey Pelletier each had four singles.

In the second game, Lance Haynes and Pelletier each hit a three-run home run in the second inning for Thomas. Ryan O’Connor tripled to knock in three runs in the second.

At Waterville, Charles Engasser scored the winning run for Bates in the 10th.

Jeff Kowaleski had three hits for the winners of Lewiston.

Jared Cushman had three hits, three runs, and three stolen bases for Colby and Tyler Hales added two doubles and a single with three RBIs.

At Waterville, Annette Caswell picked up the win on the mound and hit an RBI single in the third inning to lead Colby College to the victory.

Michaelyn Bortolotti hit an RBI single in the third inning for Colby. Lauren Olmsted had a pair of singles and scored a run. Emily Allen singled and scored the first run for the Mules.

Richelle Dube hit a single and stole two bases for the University of Maine-Farmington.

Bridgewater takes two from USM

At Bridgewater, Mass., Kaitlyn Gambino pitched a three-hit shutout in the opener and Katie Tauber limited the Huskies to two runs on six hits in the second game as the Bears beat the University of Southern Maine 2-0 and 4-2.

Huskies senior Renee Heath had a pair of hits in each game and drove in a run in the second game. Junior Darci Holland drove in the other with a double.
