Harvey, Kane, Ferguson lead Husson to three-win weekend

BANGOR – Craig Harvey struck out nine and scattered nine hits as the Husson College baseball team rolled to a 10-3 victory in the opening game of Sunday’s doubleheader against Lyndon State in college action.

Lyndon State held off Husson 9-8 in Sunday’s second game but Husson swept Saturday’s games 4-3 and 8-3.

In Sunday’s opener, Husson’s Shawn Henderson hit a two-run double. Jason Folsom, Billy Kane and Harvey each added an RBI single. Pat Ryan singled twice and drove in a run for Lyndon State.

In Sunday’s nightcap, the Braves scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t rally all the way back. Travis Casey tripled, singled and drove in three runs for the winners. Kane doubled, singled and had three RBIs for Husson.

In Saturday’s first game, Josh Ferguson hit a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth to lift the Braves. Tony Laprino and Justin Spencer each chipped in with an RBI single. Gregg Rose hit three singles for Lyndon State.

In Saturday’s second game, Harvey led the Braves with two RBI doubles. Ferguson singled and contributed another RBI double. Chris McInnis fanned five. Matt Durso singled twice for the visitors.

Thomas takes two from UMPI

At Waterville Sunday, the Terriers earned a pair of wins over the Owls, beating them 8-7 in the first game and 9-0 in the second game.

In the first game, Aaron Bonenfant had a two-out hit in the top of the tenth inning to send home Jordan McDonald and Give Thomas the win.

Shawn Brawn and Lance Haynes each had two singles and an RBI while Scott Brawn hit two singles. Ryan O’Connor chipped in with a solo homer.

Josh Berry hit a double and two singles for the UM-Presque Isle effort while Darren Belskis chipped in with two singles.

In the second game, Jeremy Stanford pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out ten and allowing only one hit and 1 walk for the Terriers.

Scott Brawn contributed with a triple and two singles for four RBIs.

Matt Bouchard had the lone hit for UM-Presque Isle.

USM, Keene State split

At Keene, N.H., Sunday, Tyler Delorme doubled and singled twice, driving in three runs, to power the Huskies to a 11-5 win in the second game of a doubleheader. Keene State won the first game 9-8.

In the first game, Mike Masseur’s RBI single for the Owls won it in the bottom of the ninth. Delorme doubled and knocked in three runs.

In the second game, Pat McCarthy hit a solo homer and added a double and two singles for the Huskies. Jeremy Schilling hit three singles and drove in three runs.

USM sweeps Plymouth State

At Gorham, USM took two games in a doubleheader on Saturday, defeating Plymouth State 4-2 and 14-4.

In the first game, two of Southern Maine’s runs were unearned while Andy Lang and Brian Marshall each had RBI singles.

Scott Hodsdon hit a sacrifice fly to send home Derek Guimond for Plymouth State.

In the second game, Colin Loveless hit a two-run single to tie the game in the second for the Huskies while Lang had two home runs and five RBIs and Paul Tedesco added a solo homer.

Hodsdon hit a two-run homer in the first for the Panthers while Matt Price added a solo homer.

Thomas downs UMPI four times

At Waterville, Thomas swept a four-game series against UM-Presque Isle this weekend, winning Saturday’s games 11-5 and 12-1 then taking Saturday’s contests 12-1 and 14-2.

In Saturday’s opener, Dee Kelly hit two singles while Heather Johnson had three singles to help lead the Thomas offense. Stephanie Gagnon hit a double for the UMPI effort.

In Saturday’s second game, Courtney Corbett pitched a one-run, two-hit game with six strikeouts to help shut down the Owls. Jen Lane had two doubles while Joy Ireland chipped in with two singles.

Gagnon and Jessica Rose hit a single apiece for UMPI.

In Sunday’s first game, Ireland had two singles and an RBI in addition to pitching a one-run, one-hit game with seven strikeouts for Thomas.

Dee Kelly had three RBIs on three singles while Jasmine Carey hit a two-run single and Courtney Corbett added three singles. Sarah Nason had a single for UMPI.

In Sunday’s nightcap, Ireland and Corbett each had three singles and two RBIs for Thomas. Carey contributed a double, a single and an RBI.

Danielle Lee hit a double and a single for the Owls.

UM-Farmington sweeps Fisher

At Boston Saturday, UM-Farmington took a pair of games from Fisher picking up a 15-1 victory in the first game and winning the second 8-5.

In the first game, Lauren Stacey and Jessica Wenckus combined for five innings of solid pitching to allow only one run and five hits between them. Rachel Dube hit a two-run double. Val Moore pitched a complete game for Fisher.

In the second game, Ravinski had a triple and a single for two RBIs while Dorice Reitchel hit a double and a single.

Moore went the distance for Fisher in the nightcap.

Southern Maine splits two games

At Mansfield, Conn., Saturday, Southern Maine split a doubleheader with Eastern Connecticut, winning the first game 6-5 and losing 1-0 in the nightcap.

In the first game, Natasha Jackson hit a sacrifice fly to send home the game-winning run for the Huskies. Darci Holland chipped in with two doubles for two RBIs and scored the winning run.

Andrea Tarbox smacked a three-run triple for Eastern Connecticut.

In the second game, Shari D’Amico pitched a two-hit shutout for Eastern Connecticut while Lori Brelsford scored the lone run after she singled, advanced to second on sacrifice and scored on an infield error.

Sarah McLean had two singles for Southern Maine.

St. Joseph’s takes two from Colby

At Waterville, St. Joseph’s defeated Colby 4-3 and 5-2 in a doubleheader on Saturday.

In the first game, Sarah Ouellette hit an RBI single to win the game in the eighth for St. Joseph’s.

Wendy Bonner hit an RBI single and a two-out homer to tie the game in the seventh.

In the second game, Kristin Gaudette hit a two-run double in the first to start off a lead that would hold the rest of the game for the Monks.

Emily Allen hit a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh for the Colby effort.

Husson takes three of four

At Bangor Sunday, the Braves exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the seventh en route to a 15-14 win over Lyndon State in the second game of a doubleheader. Lyndon took the opener 12-11. Husson swept Saturday’s games 8-7 and 10-2.

In Sunday’s nightcap, Erin Weston doubled, singled and drove in two runs. Stacey Akerman hit three singles for three RBIs. Jill Kirohoff homered for Lyndon.

In Sunday’s opener, Lyndon’s Chris Riendeau racked up three RBIs on three singles and a double. Lesley Freese hit three singles and knocked in two runs for the Braves.

In Saturday’s first game, Weston scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth when she came home on a Nicole Duplisea sacrifice fly. Duplisea finished with three singles and three RBIs. Lyndon’s Leslie Sykes singled twice.

In Saturday’s second game, the Braves scored for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth. Weston hit two singles and a double for two RBIs. Nicole Munroe added a double and a single. Jen Kirchoff hit two singles for the visitors.
