Army Pvt. Michael Walters has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga. Walters is the son of Joseph and Susan Walters of Gouldsboro.

Pvt. Dylan J. Allen of Oroville, Calif., a graduate of Old Town High School, graduated basic training from Fort Jackson, S.C., transferred to Fort Gordon, Ga., where he finished military training in microwave communications, and is now stationed in Fort Detrick, Md. Allen’s grandparents, Charles and Betty Norburg, reside in Milford, and his mother, Ginger Allen, is a resident of Old Town.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Jeremy Lawrence, son of Kathy Russell of Bangor, recently left for a six-month deployment on board the USS Los Angeles. Lawrence, a 1998 graduate of Bangor High School, is an electronics technician aboard the nuclear-powered attack submarine.

Marine Corps Cpl. James Smith and Lance Cpl. Anthony Gathright of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit based in Camp Lejeune, N.C., recently arrived in Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Smith, son of Patricia and James Smith of Brewer, joined the Marine Corps in 1994. Gathright, son of Daisy Woodman of Winterport, is a 1997 graduate of Hampden Academy and joined the Marine Corps in 1998.

Marine Corps Pfc. Matthew Schaefer, son of Cheryl Schaefer of Bangor and Thomas Schaefer of Orrington, recently was promoted to his present rank while serving with Marine Corps Detachment, Monterey, Calif. Schaefer is a 2002 graduate of Orono High School.

Marine Corps Reserve Pvt. Eric King, son of Paula King of Bangor and Michael King of Brewer, has completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. King is a 2002 graduate of Hampden High School.

Marine Corps Pfc. Cristin Lydick, daughter of Peggy George of Eddington and Cressey Brazier of Holden, has completed the administrative clerk course at Personnel Administration School, Marine Corps Service Support School, at Camp Lejeune, N.C. Lydick is a 2002 graduate of Bangor High School.

Navy Airman Apprentice Michael Bruni, a 1996 graduate of Morse High School, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Bruni is the son of Nancy and Raymond Bruni of Orrington.
