New England School of Communications
BANGOR – Both parties in the newly signed contract between Sephone Internet Solutions of Bangor and the New England School of Communications at Husson College say it’s a win-win situation.
Starting in the fall of 2003 Sephone executives will teach courses in digital media imaging and Web design.
“We will be training professionals that Sephone or other such firms can hire and in this market people of that caliber are relatively scarce,” said Rod Verrill, television coordinator for NESCom.
Scott Traylor, executive vice-president of Sephone, agreed.
“We’re excited to be involved in the teaching as it gives us a direct hand in guiding the skills of those who can become potential employee.”
Joe Distefano, Sephone president, will join Traylor as an adjunct faculty member of NESCom. Traylor has had previous teaching experience while seeking a graduate degree at the Camden campus of Rutgers University, where he taught teacher certification courses on how to integrate media in the classroom.
The two courses will be offered to all bachelor’s degree students at NESCom and will be monitored by an advisory group of school faculty and company executives.
Sephone, named for the Greek goddess of spring, Persephone, was established in December 2001, in Bangor as a Web site design and maintenance company to provide Web applications, Web hosting, consulting, training and marketing for businesses, primarily in Maine, but gradually expanding along the East Coast.
The contract between Sephone and NESCom is the first such cooperative effort between a local company and the school.
