Riitano, Mainville, Heath power USM to split

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Katie Mainville scattered four hits and struck out five to lead the University of Southern Maine softball team to a 2-0 win in the second game of a doubleheader against Plymouth State Thursday. Plymouth State took the first game 3-2.

In the first game, Maria Curran hit a two-run homer and Kristen Balles added an RBI double to lead the Panthers. Renee Heath smacked a two-run homer for Southern Maine.

In the second game, Heath provided the winning run with an RBI triple and Caterina Riitano contributed an RBI single. Kim Jeffs allowed seven hits in Plymouth State’s loss.

UMF sweeps Husson

At Farmington, Cynthia Ravinski homered in the first game and tripled in the second game to help the Beavers to a doubleheader sweep of the Braves. UMF won the first game 10-0 and took the second 12-3.

In the first game, Dorice Reitchel hit a triple for the Beavers. Richelle Dube doubled with two RBIs. Ravinski had three RBIs and finished with five in the two games. Husson’s Nicole Duplisea scattered seven hits in the loss.

In the second game, Sophia Stanley hit a grand slam to power the Beavers. Michelle Irwin had two singles.

Erin Weston tripled for the Braves and Lesley Freese had an RBI.

At Boston, Southern Maine’s Colin Loveless smacked a solo home run in the seventh to break a 2-2 tie en route to the win.

Brian Marshall drove in a pair of insurance runs in the eighth on a double. Erik Kent scattered six hits and had no walks in eight innings for the win.

Jon Tekela smacked a two-run homer for the Beacons.

At Standish, Mike Parissi allowed only two hits, no runs, and one walk while striking out seven through nine innings to give Brandeis University the win.

Jon Brown hit a double and a single for Brandeis. Andrew Kahn doubled with an RBI. Nick Adams hit a single with an RBI and scored a run.

Lucas Hannigan and Jake Rodden each singled for Saint Joseph’s College’s only hits.
