AUGUSTA – The Maine AFL-CIO and the Maine Labor Group on Health will honor employees killed on the job during the annual Workers Memorial Day, Monday, April 28. Last year 30 people in Maine died on the job as a result of accidents.

The ceremony will be held 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in the West Side Water Front Park (down by the gazebo) in downtown Augusta.

Edward Gorham, president of the Maine AFL-CIO, Laura Fortman, Maine labor commissioner nominee, and U.S. Rep. Michael Michaud will be guest speakers.

The event also will feature labor songs and the reading of the names of workers killed on the job in 2002. A wreath will be placed in the Kennebec River after a moment of silence.

For more information, contact the Maine Labor Group on Health at 622-7823.
