PORTLAND – Andy Dominique’s homer paced the Portland Sea Dogs and Alexis Rios’ grand slam powered the New Haven Ravens as the Eastern League rivals split a doubleheader Sunday, with Portland winning 7-4 ahead of a 9-1 loss.

Justin Sherrod singled twice and scored twice and John Nathans collected two RBI as the Sea Dogs took the opener.

Justin Singleton went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the Ravens’ loss. Portland’s cause was aided by six walks, two wild pitches and a pair of hit batsmen with the bases loaded.

Portland (7-8) took a 1-0 lead in the nightcap when Nelson Castro scampered home on Greg Youkilis’ double in the fourth inning, but New Haven (10-8) tied it on Singleton’s RBI double in the sixth.

Rios’ homer with three aboard was the biggest blow as the Ravens scored eight times in the seventh. John-Ford Griffin also homered for the Ravens, who were aided by four walks issued by Portland pitchers that inning.
