BANGOR – John Dow scattered five hits while striking out 11 to lift the MDI baseball team to a 3-1 victory over John Bapst Saturday in high school action at Husson College’s Winkin Baseball Complex.

Andy Pooler and Donnie Mace of MDI hit back-to-back triples in the seventh inning, with Mace driving in Pooler. Answin Asjes smacked a leadoff triple in the second and scored on a wild pitch. Dow had five walks.

George Keefe scored John Bapst’s run when Pat Healy drew a bases-loaded walk. Keith Nason took the loss despite allowing five hits, striking out seven and walking one.

Ellsworth sweeps Caribou

At Ellsworth, the Eagles swept the Vikings 7-1 in the first game and 11-4 in the second.

In the first game, Garrett Hardison singled twice, drove in three runs, and scored two more to lead Ellsworth. Seth Mayo added a double and a single for the Eagles.

Ryan Cousins hit an RBI double to lead Caribou.

In the second game, Asa Jones smacked a two-run double to spark Ellsworth. Hardison contributed two singles, and two RBIs.

Adam Ouellette had two singles and John Sulfridge two singles and an RBI for the Vikings.

At Bangor, Josh Heath tossed a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts as the Rams rolled.

Nate Hall singled twice and scored three runs for Bangor while Nick Larochelle added a single.

Matt Bubar singled for the Golden Bucks.

At Brewer, Chad Gomm gave up only one earned run, four hits, and one walk while striking out 17 to lead the Witches.

Andrew Patterson doubled and singled with two RBIs for Brewer. Kevin McAvoy hit a double with two RBIs, and Zack Bouzan-Kaloustian had a pair of singles.

Matt Groven hit two singles with two RBIs for MDI.

At Harrington, Dylan Johnson gave up only three runs on two hits and three walks while striking out 11.

Joe Leighton hit a three-run homer in the first inning for Narraguagus.

At Deer Isle, Evan Haskell allowed no earned runs, no walks, and only four hits while striking out nine to give Deer Isle-Stonington the win.

Haskell hit a three-run double in fifth inning for DI-S. Jeff Douglass had three singles with two RBIs and Thomas Robbins had a pair of singles.

Dave Chrisos, Ben Sobey, and Eric Sobey each had a single for Bangor Christian.

At Woodland, Gerry Worster hit a rare two-run sacrifice fly in a five-run third inning uprising and combined with Nate Dow and Jeremy Ham on a five-inning three-hitter as the defending Eastern Maine Class D champ triumphed.

Jeremy Ham and Tyler Thompson contributed two-run singles in the five-run fourth and each also had another single in the game.

Adam Hunt, Chad Pike and Justin McCoubrey singled for Woodland.

At Hampden, Brad Goody singled and hit a sacrifice fly to knock in all three runs for the Indians.

Mike Russell singled and doubled for Old Town.

Billy Shannon singled and doubled for the Broncos and Blaine Meehan hit a pair of singles. Kyle Dalton hit a RBI double in the third inning.

Ellsworth sweeps Caribou

At Ellsworth, Holly Tripp hit a three-run homer in the third inning to help the Eagles to an 18-0 win over the Vikings in the first game of a doubleheader. Ellsworth won the second game 25-6.

In the first game, Tripp added three singles and two more RBIs for Ellsworth. Morgan Buckingham hit four singles with three RBIs. Krystal Roberts and Victoria Jones each had three singles.

Emily St. Peter, Christy Zbylut, Molly Bell, and Billi Martin each singled for Caribou.

In the second game, Tripp racked up four singles and a two-run homer to finish with seven RBIs. Emma Rieman tripled and doubled with four RBIs, and Roberts hit a trio of singles with four RBIs.

Billi Martin hit a single, double, and triple with three RBIs for Caribou.

At Woodland, Jessie Kuester hit a solo home run in the third inning and a three-run shot in the sixth inning as the Pandas held off the Dragons.

Ashlee Gifford hit a triple, two doubles, and a single with three RBIs for Lee. Jackie Moors doubled, singled, and drove in three runs.

Woodland’s Kelsy Snowman hit a triple, double, and a single to finish with two RBIs. Katie Smith tripled and singled with three RBIs and Alicia Vose had a double and a single with three RBIs.

At Bangor, Jill Richards and Elissa Gordon had run-scoring singles in the six-run sixth-inning rally that erased a 2-0 deficit.

Nikki Smith pitched a five-hitter for the win, striking out two and walking two.

Gordon had three singles and Richards had two for the Bucks.

Heidi Baker and Megan McCrum each had a double and a run-scoring single for Bangor and Jamie Kowalski doubled.

Brewer 8, MDI 1

At Brewer, Sarah DeFilipp and Jamie Gomm combined on a two-hitter and the Witches turned four walks, two errors and a Carolyn McAvoy single into four first-inning runs as Brewer won its season-opener.

DeFilipp and Gomm combined for nine strikeouts and three walks.

McAvoy had two singles; Amy Freeman had a run-scoring double and Kate Hanlon had an RBI single for Brewer.

Chelsea Dow and Jessica Norwood singled for MDI.
