ST. STEPHEN, New Brunswick – Canada Customs officials were questioning a man late Sunday after he failed to pull over for a border guard on the New Brunswick-Maine border.
They were also searching his vehicle, a Jeep with Illinois license plates.
The man went through the border at St. Stephen, said Sgt. Dwight Frye of the Saint John Police Force. The U.S. side of the crossing is in Calais in Washington County.
The man was asked to pull over, but drove away.
The police spotted the vehicle about two hours later while it was crossing the Harbour Bridge in Saint John. They pulled him over on Highway 1 without incident and escorted him to the Canada Customs office.
The 35-year-old man, who is originally from Newfoundland, had been heading home, said Frye.
It was unclear whether any charges would be lodged.
