Carnes, Veazie lift Dexter to win

DEXTER – Dexter’s Sara Carnes outdueled Bangor Christian’s Kara Hartman with a three-hitter, striking out 14 batters and walking two, to lead the Tigers to a 3-1 schoolgirl softball victory Monday.

Brittany Veazie was the game’s lone multiple hitter with two singles. In the third, she drew a leadoff walk, stole second, and scored on Carnes’ RBI single. Carnes (two RBIs) scored on an error.

The Patriots scored their lone run on an Amber Leathers triple and a Hartman RBI single. Hartman allowed five hits. She struck out 10 and walked three.

At Belfast, Morgan Crandall pitched a shutout, striking out six batters and allowing only four hits and one walk to help hold back Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield. Crandall also led the Lion offense with a grand slam, a home run and a single for six RBIs.

Kate Ross added two doubles and a single for three RBIs while Sam Ellis hit a triple and two singles. Lauren Overlack and Ashley Bryant had an RBI triple apiece while Angela Marden chipped in with two singles.

Kirsten Stevens, Megan Ferland, Missy Hussey and Kasey Dodge each hit a single for MCI.

At Lee, Marci Moors scattered eight hits while twin sister Jackie Moors had a double, two singles, and an RBI.

Michaela Ham and Kristin Hersom each had two singles and an RBI and Brittany Mallett hit a three-run home run for Lee Academy.

Darcey Gillespie had a two-run homer in the first, two singles, and four RBIs for Calais. Amanda Brown doubled and singled.

At Corinth, Nicole Daniel’s suicide squeeze with nobody out in the seventh helped plate the winning run as Traci Underhill scored from third after escaping a rundown via a throwing error.

Jenny Rollins led the Red Devils with a triple and two singles. Shawna Bell tripled, Nicole Labbe singled twice, and Renee Trafton hit a two-run homer in the first.

Morgan Burr had two singles and an RBI while Lauren Fournier had an RBI single for the Hawks.

At Millinocket, Dana Somers scored four runs, hit two singles and had three stolen bases to help lead Stearns to the win.

Holly Franck had a double and two singles while Jordan Legassey added a double and a single. Johnna Michaud chipped in with two singles.

Ashley McMahon led the Penquis effort with three singles while Erica Morrill had two singles.

At Lincoln, Kasse Brown pitched a five-hitter, doubled, and singled twice to lead the host Mattanawcook Academy Lynx past Schenck of East Millinocket.

Arikka Knights singled three times and Brooke Leighton added a triple and a double for the Lynx.

Nicole Rudge had three singles for the Wolverines.

At Guilford, Karoleanne Emery racked up six RBIs on a triple, a single and a three-run homer to power the Pirates.

Amanda Kite hit a two-run triple for Piscataquis. Kristen Roy tripled, doubled and singled for two RBIs. Charley Bradford struck out seven.

Jennifer Plourde tripled for the Howlers of Howland.

At Lee, Jason Mallett singled, got to second on a Tyler Thompson walk and scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth to lift the Pandas past the Blue Devils.

Kent Doane and Nate Dow each hit an RBI double in Lee’s eight-run third and Rob Noonan had a two-run single in that inning. Gerry Worster chipped in with two singles. Andrew Stevens helped get Mallett home when he tried a sacrifice bunt to move the runners but reached on the error.

Zack Ludington paced Calais with a three-run double in the sixth and Russ McLean doubled. Six of the Devils’ eight runs were unearned.

At Belfast, Matt Welch cranked a grand slam and added an RBI single to power the Lions past Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

Jesse Johnson chipped in with a double, two singles and three RBIs for Belfast and Nick Arthers added a double, single and two RBIs. Paul Herman drove in two runs on two singles.

Marty Quint doubled and had two RBIs for MCI.

Steve Camarre hit an RBI single for the Patriots of Milo.

At Corinth, Ron Lane scattered eight hits while racking up 11 strikeouts and issuing four walks as his Hermon Hawks notched the victory.

Dustin Jailburt had a double, a single, and an RBI for Hermon. Brady Hurd hit an RBI double and Nate Ellis hit an RBI single.

Mike Julian singled twice and James Gray added an RBI double.

At Lincoln, Wayne Berry pitched a five-hitter, notched nine strikeouts, and issued three walks to help lead the Mattanawcook Academy Lynx past Schenck of East Millinocket.

Wayne Berry led the Lynx with two singles and a home run. Steven Whitney and Tyler Libbey each had a double, single and one RBI.

Chad McLaughlin hit an RBI single for the Wolverines.

At Blue Hill, Mike Astbury had two doubles and an RBI to help lead George Stevens Academy past Searsport.

Mark Clapp added a double and a triple for the Eagles.

Jim Gahon doubled, tripled and drove in a run while Mike Mercer contributed an RBI double for Searsport.
