PHILADELPHIA – Former Ellsworth High School star Ben Shorey and Mt. Blue of Farmington graduate Adam Staier recorded victories at the Penn Relays Sunday.

Shorey, a sophomore at Wisconsin Parkside, won the open 10-kilometer racewalk with a time of 42 minutes, 10.97 seconds, while Staier, a freshman at Mansfield (Pa.) University, won the junior 10K with a time of 46:30.59.

Ex-Narraguagus of Harrington standout Anne Favolise turned in a top effort also with a second place in the women’s 5K racewalk with a time of 24:17.71. She is a sophomore at Wisconsin Parkside.

In the steeplechase, Jay High grad Justin Eastler, now attending Bates College in Lewiston, finished second among a field of 46 runners.

Several high school athletes from Maine also turned in top performances as Lisbon’s Troy Clark, Caribou’s Dan Campbell, Dirigo of Dixfield’s Jasmine Brooks and Mt. Blue’s Carly Lochala all qualified for the National Track and Field Championships in Palo Alto, Calif., in late June.
