DEXTER – A reward has been posted for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people who vandalized a dozen old tombstones at Elmwood Cemetery within the past week.
Maurice Neal, sexton, discovered the damage Tuesday when he visited the cemetery. He said some of the old marble stones on the Civil War-era graves were tipped over and others were broken into pieces. He said the breaks are fresh because the cracks have not weathered. He estimated it would cost about $500 to repair the damage, although the cracks always will be prominent in the tombstones.
Anyone with information should contact the town office at 924-7351.
