GUILFORD – A piece of copper tubing sealed on both ends and discarded Monday on Water Street was nothing more than copper tubing with taped ends.
A pedestrian called police Monday evening after he spied the suspicious-looking device lying in the ditch on Water Street. Local firefighters sealed off the area and deputies from the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department alerted the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Investigator Scott Richardson of the State Fire Marshal’s Office said Tuesday that tests found that the tubing was empty.
