FAIRFIELD – Fairfield police are investigating an accident on Route 201 that claimed the life of a 40-year-old woman.

Police said Helena Bohan of Fairfield was killed shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday when her car drifted into the oncoming lane and collided nearly head-on with a loaded tractor-trailer.

Fairfield police Officer Amie Trahan said Bohan died at the scene, and that the driver of the truck, Davis McKenney of Waterville, suffered bruises.

The officer said McKenney was lucky to escape with only minor injuries because the truck flipped onto its side and slid down the side of a roadside ditch, ripping off its roof.

“He was outside the truck while it was sliding on its side going down the road,” Trahan said.

Police said they intended to inspect Bohan’s car later for more evidence to determine what caused the accident.
