CAMDEN – Two fires reported Thursday night and Friday morning within a mile of each other are being considered suspicious, Police Chief Phil Roberts said Friday.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of both blazes. The first fire, reported at 7 p.m. Thursday, destroyed a detached garage at a home at 1 Collins St. A Subaru parked outside the garage was also destroyed, according to Pat Lowe, a firefighter.

Then, at about 2 a.m. Friday, a fire was reported at 48 Evergreen Lane. Lowe said the blaze climbed the outside of the house there, but did no serious damage to the home. No one was injured in the fires.

The names of the homeowners were not available Friday in either the police or fire department reports.

Lowe declined to describe the fires as possible incidents of arson, saying only that their causes were under investigation.
