Nickerson rolls to Speedway 95 victory

BANGOR – Lloyd Nickerson of Corinth started his Chevrolet Monte Carlo on the pole at Sunday’s Super Street Division 35-lap feature race and kept it out front all the way to the win in Speedway 95’s opener.

Stockton Springs’ Duane Seekins passed John Phippen Jr. of Bar Harbor late in the race to finish second. Andy Saunders of Ellsworth was fourth and Mike Thomas of Etna finished fifth.

Paul White took the Limited Sportsman division race while Alex Shaw of Hermon was first in the Super Street division.

Chad Ashey of Frankfort picked up the Sport Four win and Winterport’s Derek Mingo proved to be the best in Strictly Street.

Jay Robichaud of Orrington won in Mini Trucks.

Winterport Dragway

At Winterport, Mike Prescott of Bucksport won the Gamblers Race on opening day Sunday.

Blue Hill’s Rick Wiseman was the winner in Street Trophy class and Mike Jordan of Ellsworth picked up the win in the Bikes/Sleds Gamblers Race.

Beech Ridge Speedway

At Scarborough, Steve Carrier of Saco qualified his Chevrolet on the pole for the NASCAR Pro Series Race at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon and went on to win the 40-lap race.

Carrier fought off challenges from Windham’s Bobby Babb, Bub Bilodeau of Standish and Jay Sands of Seabrook, N.H., to secure the win.

Babb finished second, Bilodeau was third, Sands was fourth and Rick Frenette of Waterboro placed fifth.

Jason Larrabee of Raymond won the NASCAR Sports Series race while Standish’s Frank Collins won for the first time in the Lightning Bug division. Cole Watson of Naples picked up his second Trucks Division victory and Windham’s Robert Ricker was first to the checkered flag in the Wildcat Division.

Wiscasset Raceway

At Wiscasset, Louie Mechalides of Tyngsboro, Mass., pulled off a first-place finish in the 40-lap Pro Stock event on Saturday despite being involved in a lap one wreck that took most of the panels off the right side of his car.

Mechalides took the lead from Chuck Lachance with two laps remaining for the win. Lachance finished second while Wiscasset’s Scott Chubbuck, also involved in the earlier crash, came in third.

Steve Reno of West Bath took first in the Strong Chevrolet Modified race followed by Ben Rowe of Turner and Wayne Allard of Bangor.

In the Mini Stock event, Brent Roy of Vassalboro picked up his first win in two years while Pete McCollat moved up from 11th to take second place.

Oxford Plains Speedway

At Oxford, Alan Wilson of Hebron won the Pro Stock event by one car-length after a yellow flag on lap 30 due to oil on the track.

Jeff White of Winthrop finished second behind Wilson while Tommy Tompkins of Carthage came in third.

Pole starter Travis Adams picked up the win in the 30-lap Late Model Stock event while T.J. Brackett was runner-up despite a near-crash in the middle of the race.

Kenny Harrison of Pownal claimed his second win in the Limited Sportsman race and in doing so also took the lead in division points.
