Bucks’ Smith has no-hitter

BUCKSPORT – Junior Nikki Smith no-hit the Hermon Hawks 3-0 to lead the Bucksport Golden Bucks to their sixth straight win in high school softball action Monday.

Smith struck out eight and allowed only three walks in her first no-hitter.

Jessica Taylor hit a pair of singles with a RBI for Bucksport and Tara Tweedie, Ashley McAllian, and Jill Richards each singled.

Woodland 15, East Grand 3

At Woodland, Kati Holmes hit a two-run homer in the second inning along with a triple and two singles with four RBIs to help Woodland win.

Tiffany Wormell hit a solo home run and two singles with three RBIs for the Dragons. Megan Lord had two singles with two RBIs and Gena Clark also had two singles with one RBI.

Ryanne Flannery had a pair of singles and scored a run for East Grand.

Stearns 13, Sumner 11

At Millinocket, Dana Somers cranked a two-run, ninth-inning homer to power the Minutemen by the Tigers of East Sullivan.

Casey Popp and Jordan Legassey each singled and doubled for Stearns while Hilary Arsenault tripled and singled. Holly Franck chipped in with three singles and Leslie Osborne doubled twice.

Meghan Ruhlin singled twice for Sumner, stole two bases and scored four runs.

At Deer Isle, Laurie Allen pitched a two-hitter, striking out six, as George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill triumphed.

Liz Tyler and Rachael Wardwell had three singles apiece for the winners.

Hollan Oliver and Lacy Greenlaw singled for the Mariners.

At Corinth, Megan Jones hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to spark Central.

Jones also hit a pair of singles with five RBIs for the Red Devils. Shawna Bell tripled and doubled with three RBIs and Renee Trafton had two singles with three RBIs.

Sheila Wilber hit a RBI triple for Searsport. Theresa Cameron doubled and Abby Tripp hit a RBI single.

At Calais, Amanda Brown hit two RBI doubles, the last of which scored the winning run with two outs in the fifth, to lead the host Blue Devils to the win.

Jamie Doliber had three singles and two RBIs while Chrissy Driscoll had three singles and one RBI for Calais. Jessica Whitaker picked up the win in relief.

For Jonesport-Beals, Jody Pinkham had a double, two singles, and three RBIs. Monique Emerson had three singles and three RBIs. Sarah Beal added three singles.

At Eastport, Sara Rushforth hit two singles and knocked in two runs to lead Washington Academy to the win.

Daphne Nichols hit a RBI triple and scored three runs for the Raiders of East Machias.

Britney Linley tripled and doubled with a RBI for Shead and Samantha Davis had two singles with two RBIs.
