Cooper, Knights lift Lynx by Lee

LEE – Lindsay Cooper’s two-run double in the fifth tied the game and Arikka Knights singled her home with the game-winner as Mattanawcook Academy defeated Lee Academy 8-7 in high school softball action Tuesday.

Shannon Pietras had three singles and two RBIs for the Lynx and Knights had three singles and an RBI.

Jacki Moors had a double and two singles and drove in two runs for Lee. Ashlee Gifford had three singles and an RBI and Jesse Kuester had two singles and two RBIs.

At Mount Desert, Danielle Clark slammed a two-run, third inning double that scored Michelle Murray and Joyce Holland and gave the Warriors of Newport all the offense they needed.

Becca Goss, Jessica Norwood and Bracey Barker had a single apiece for the Trojans.

At Woodland, the Blue Devils collected 23 hits on their way to victory over the Dragons.

Darcy Gillespie powered Calais with a grand slam, a double, two singles and six total RBIs. Amanda Brown plated four runs with a double and three singles, Danielle O’Brien rapped a double and two singles good for four RBIs and Jamie Doliber hit a two-run homer and an RBI single.

Katie Holmes led Woodland with a double, a single and three RBIs. Alicia Vose posted two singles and two RBIs.

At Lee, Jeremy Ham hit a three run-home run and Nate Dow drove in two runs with a single as the Pandas scored five times in the sixth inning.

Ham pitched a three-hitter, striking out 10 and walking two.

Mattanawcook of Lincoln’s Matt Malone threw a perfect game through five innings, striking out 11 and walking two.

Brian Dupuis had a single, RBI and two stolen bases and Tyler Gardner doubled for the Lynx.

At Woodland, winning pitcher Nick Seeley hit a two-run double in an eight-run fourth-inning rally and Shawn McLean added a two-run single as Calais triumphed.

Seeley pitched a five-hitter, striking out seven and walking six.

He had a single to go with his double and drove in three runs; Scott McDonald had three singles and an RBI and McLean had two singles and two RBIs.

Jeremy Gillespie’s two singles and Darren Ripley’s RBI single paced Woodland.

At Fort Kent, Southern Aroostook pitchers Adam Anderson, Corey Shields, and Corey Edkins combined for the Dyer Brook-based school’s second no-hitter in as many days.

Anderson struck out seven in three innings’ work, Shields struck out five in his three innings, and Edkins struck out two in the seventh. They only walked two.

Jarred Grant’s two-run double and Zach Austin’s two-run single highlighted a six-run second inning that propelled SAHS.

Grant and Austin each finished with two doubles, a single, and three RBIs, and Ewan McGary added a solo homer.

At Houlton, R.J. Gagnon hit a double and a pair of singles with five RBIs to lead Presque Isle to the win.

Adam Swanson had four singles with two RBIs for the Wildcats. Kyle Gagnon, Matt Carnelle, and Cole Putnam each had a two singles.

Erik O’Connell hit a triple and two singles with five RBIs for Houlton. Jon Weston hit three singles as Derek Dow and Ben Pierce each had two singles.

At Washburn, Seth Milton and Dan Buckley had a home run and a double apiece as the Beavers rolled.

Milton drove in three runs and Buckley had two RBIs. Josh Bigbee plated two runs with a pair of triples, while Clinton Carter had a triple and an RBI and Zach Bird singled twice and drove in a run.

Kyle Labee had a one-out double in the third inning for Wisdom of St. Agatha’s only hit.
