WATERVILLE – Motorists in the Waterville area will see increased construction activity on several roads and highways for the next several weeks, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.
The construction is slated for parts of Interstate 95, Kennedy Memorial Drive and Route 139.
On I-95, the work area will be the southbound lanes between the Kennebec River Bridge in Fairfield and the Messalonskee Stream Bridge in Waterville. Work will include milling the old pavement off both the travel and passing lanes, guardrail and drainage improvements and paving. The work will include the southbound on and off ramps at Upper Main Street in Waterville, Route 139 in Fairfield and U.S. Route 201 in Fairfield.
DOT advises motorists to expect lane closures on I-95 southbound from now through late July. The closures will be removed for the July 4 holiday weekend.
The contract covering all four projects, awarded to Pike Industries of Lewiston on a bid of $2.2 million, calls for completion of work by mid-August.
DOT urges area motorists to approach all work areas slowly and with extra caution for the safety of drivers and workers.
