BANGOR – The popular May Festival will be sponsored again by the University of Maine Center on Aging on Friday and Saturday, May 9-10, at Norumbega Park in downtown. Registration is $7.50, with a separate cost for the Friday night dance.

Friday, May 9

. Sergio Espinoza playing traditional Peruvian music throughout the morning.

. Show ‘n’ Tell, 9 a.m.- noon: exhibits by AARP, Dirigo Pines, Eastern Agency on Aging, Hammond Street Senior Center, Penobscot Valley Senior College, Retired & Senior Volunteer Program, and UMaine Center on Aging.

. Workshops, 9 a.m.: “You Can’t Take It with You: What You Need to Know about Estate Planning” with Dick Hewitt, retired financial planner and former member of the New York Stock Exchange.

10 a.m.: “Tips from a Master Gardener: Basics for a Maine Green Thumb” with Gleason Gray, Penobscot County Cooperative Extension.

11 a.m.: “Retirement Planning in Uncertain Times” with Dick Hewitt.

. University of Maine Museum of Art tour, 10:30 a.m.

. Opening luncheon and welcome, noon: luncheon by Killarney’s and music by 6 Basin Street, Kathy Sikkema of Generations, and Sergio Espinoza. Michael Crowley, former mayor, will be master of ceremonies. Celebrity wait staff will serve dessert.

. Music in the Chamber, 5 p.m.: youth concert in the Bangor City Council Chambers, 73 Harlow St., third floor. Will Barrett, cello, and Yvonne Drake, piano, playing selections from Brahms’ “Cello Concerto No. 1.” Also, Colin Graebert on jazz keyboard, the Bangor High School Fiddlers, and the Bangor Area Children’s Choir.

. May Festival Dance, 8-11 p.m.: Chateau Ballroom, Norumbega Hall, with music by the Moon Puppies and performances by the Zoot Suit Revue. Tickets in advance, $8 or $15 per couple; $10 or $18 per couple at the door.

. Penobscot Theatre Company’s “I Hate Hamlet,” 8 p.m.: for this showing or the 5:00 p.m. Saturday showing, $2 discount with May Festival button. For information, call 942-3333.

Saturday, May 10

10:30-noon.: scrapbooking and stamping with Carla Soucie and Martha Ward of The Scrap Yard in Old Town.

Olde but Goode, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: Robert Croul of the Bangor Daily News’ “What Is It” column and Paul Zebiac of Maritime International giving appraisals of glass, china, paintings, silver, military memorabilia, jewelry, antique watches, coins and old currency. Cost is $5 per item for a verbal appraisal.

. Generations Concert, 1:30 p.m.: folk group playing in the style of Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger and the Weavers.

. In cooperation with the River City Cinema Society and Movie City 8, May Festival offers $3 discount with a May Festival button to “I’m Going Home,” showing at 4:55 and 7:05 p.m. Saturday only, at Movie City 8, 268 Odlin Road.

May Festival tickets are available in Bangor at Bookmarc’s, the Convention and Visitors Bureau, Eastern Agency on Aging, Hammond Street Senior Center, Patrick’s at the Broadway Shopping Center, and in Orono at the Orono Pharmacy, 16 Mill St.

The cost of admission to May Festival is $7.50 and includes a ticket and button. Advance registration is encouraged. The ticket is for the May Festival luncheon; the button is for other May Festival events. To obtain more detailed information, call 581-3444.
