BANGOR – An ecumenical service marking Law Enforcement Memorial Week will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at St. Mary’s Church, 768 Ohio St.

“The purpose of the evening is to remember police officers who have died in the line of duty and to pray for officers’ safety,” said Detective Cathy Rumsey of the Bangor Police Department.

Rabbi David Cantor of Beth Israel Synagogue; the Rev. Bob Carlson, chaplain for the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department and the Bangor Police Department; Brother Rex Norris, chaplain for the Old Town and Orono police and fire departments; and the Very Rev. Frank Murray, chaplain for the Bangor Police Department, will take part in the service.

Kate Braestrup, chaplain for the Maine Warden Service and pastor of the First Universalist Church in Pittsfield, will deliver the keynote address. Braestrup’s husband, Maine State Police Officer Drew Griffith, was killed in the line of duty in 1995.
