HANCOCK – The Schoodic National Scenic Byway will be host to a free Island Explorer bus ride along the byway, starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, from the Hancock end of the Hancock-Sullivan Bridge on Route 1. The approximately two-hour ride will include commentary, scenic stops and a complimentary refreshment break.
The Schoodic Scenic Byway received national designation in 2000. The byway is managed by a coalition of volunteers and designated town representatives from Sullivan, Gouldsboro and Winter Harbor with technical support from the Hancock County Planning Commission.
This year, more than $220,000 in grants for improvements along the byway were received. These improvements will be coordinated with road renovation and resurfacing on Route 1 in Hancock and Sullivan and along Route 186 in Gouldsboro and Winter Harbor.
To volunteer with the Schoodic Byway Corridor Management Committee or for information about the byway or the May 10 event, visit www.schoodicbyway.org or call Jim Fisher at the Hancock County Planning Commission at 667-7131.
