PORTLAND – Tony Schrager tied a franchise record by driving in six runs as the Portland Sea Dogs trounced the New Britain Rock Cats 14-4 Sunday in the Eastern League.
Schrager paced the Sea Dogs’ 14-hit attack by going 3-for-4 with a three-run homer, two-run double, single and sacrifice fly. Andy Dominique and Justin Sherrod also homered and had three hits apiece. Jeremy Owens doubled and belted a two-run homer.
The Sea Dogs (16-12) capitalized on five New Britain fielding errors beginning with two costly mistakes in the second inning, when Portland grabbed a 2-1 lead.
The Sea Dogs added three runs in the third, four in the fifth, two in the seventh and three in the eighth.
Portland stays on top of the Eastern League’s Northern Division standings, while New Britain (11-20) remains at the bottom.
