Jones leads Old Town to win

NEWPORT – Sara Jones hit an RBI triple in the third inning and an RBI single in the first to help the Old Town Indians edge the Nokomis Warriors 7-5 in high school softball action Wednesday.

Liz Saucier added two singles and winning pitcher Mary Wollstadt scattered five hits.

Tia Beauregard led Nokomis with a two-run single in the third inning.

At Pittsfield, Lyla Lemari had a hit in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in Autumn Hendricks and give Maine Central Institute the win.

Ashley Currier struck out nine batters and ended four innings with strikeouts to keep the Huskies in the game.

Megan Carter had a double and a run for Mount View.

At Guilford, Laurie Allen pitched a no-hitter to lead the Eagles of Blue Hill to the win.

At Corinth, Sarah Wyman doubled and hit a solo homer, good for two RBIs and a win for the Tigers.

Amanda Pullen doubled, singled and plated two runs for Dexter and Cristy McGowan added two doubles.

Jenny Rollins had two singles to lead the Red Devils. Nicole Labbe and Renee Trafton had a double each.

At Hermon, Shannon Wiggin hit a single and a triple to send home four runners and help fuel the Hawks to the win.

Cassie White added two singles, a double and four RBIs for Hermon.

Lauren Riemersma led the Orono effort with three singles while Emily Sypher and Lindsey Colbath contributed with a single apiece.

At Lee, Marci Moors’ two-run double scored Kristen Hersmon and Moors’ sister Jackie, and Marci Moors and Liz Read scored on an error to complete a seventh-inning rally for the Pandas.

Jackie Moors doubled and Hersom singled to reach base in the seventh, and both singled earlier in the game. Ashlee Gifford tripled twice and drove in two runs.

Kara Hartman picked up the loss despite tallying 14 strikeouts and no walks. She also singled twice and had two RBIs. Danielle Miller hit two singles and Amber Leathers had an RBI.

At Howland, Michelle Batchelder pitched a two-hitter to lead the Penobscot Valley Howlers past Stearns of Millinocket.

Crystal Levesque doubled and singled while Nancy Hallett had three singles for the Howlers. Tiffany Brown added two singles.

A double by Holly Franck and a Jordan Legassey singles were the only hits by Stearns.

At Pittsfield, Shane Eddy had two singles and two RBIs for the victorious Mustangs.

Blanc McCorrison added an RBI single for Mount View of Thorndike.

At Guilford, Mike Astbury’s two-out single tied the game and he rode home on a Colin Henry single in the top of the seventh as George Stevens Academy prevailed.

Josh Gott picked up the win, striking out seven in six-plus innings, while Dan Hilts got the save. Mark Clapp singled twice for the Eagles of Blue Hill.

Dan Macomber stroked a two-run double and Darin Spack hit an RBI double for Pisacataquis.

At Hermon, the Hawks turned three double plays and Brett Danforth had two singles and four RBIs to help lead them to the win.

Jason Shorey contributed with an RBI single for Hermon while Ron Lane had a double.

Ryan Levesque had a single, a double and an RBI for Orono while Jeff Miller added two singles.

At Newport, Ryan Brown scattered eight hits, striking out eight, and doubled to pace the Indians.

Joe Guerrette singled four times with an RBI to lead Old Town, while Kevin Emerson provided two singles and an RBI and Mike Russell an RBI double.

Josh Vile and Ben Davis had two singles each for Nokomis.

At Howland, Craig Cullen hit an RBI single and the Minutemen capitalized on walks and errors for an eight-run seventh inning.

Matt Wark paced Stearns with a double and two singles, Matt Barnett added two singles and Matt Leino had an RBI single. Cullen finished two singles and two RBIs.

Cody Thompson and Nick Ware each singled twice and drove in two runs for Penobscot Valley and Jake Crosby added an RBI double.

At Machias, Nate Poore had a rich day at the plate with a double, two singles, and two home runs – a three-run shot in the third and a two-run blast in the fifth – to lead Machias past the Blue Devils.

Todd Stevens had a double and two singles while Joe Richards singled twice for the Bulldogs.

Scott MacDonald singled three times and Ben Dow added two singles for the Devils.

At Deer Isle, Jeff Douglas doubled, singled and knocked in three runs to lead the Mariners by the Vikings.

At Eastport, James Macdonald smacked an RBI triple and added a two-run single as the Tigers topped the Royals.

Matt Altvater doubled, singled and drove in a run on a sacrifice fly for the winners. Ben Maloney hit two doubles and reliever Derek Maloney struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings.

Jared Alley paced Jonesport-Beals with two singles and an RBI.

East Grand splits with Washburn

At Danforth, East Grand defeated Washburn 15-0 in the opener of a doubleheader in which the Beavers came back to win the second game 7-6.

In the first game, Scott Flannery and Chris Irish combined to pitch a three-hit shutout.

Flannery added a solo home run and scored three runs while Richard Byers had a single, a double and five RBIs. Seth Preston hit three singles while Darius Parker chipped in with two singles and a double.

Dan Harris hit two singles for Washburn.

In the second game, Jason Thompson pitched a complete game with 13 strikeouts as well as scoring a run in the seventh inning on a passed ball to give Washburn the win.

Clint Carter hit two singles for the Beavers while Sam Harris contributed with a two-run double.

Flannery led East Grand with three singles and two RBIs while Parker chipped in with two singles.

At Houlton, Griffin St. Peter singled and eventually scored on an error in the eighth inning to lift the Vikings to victory.

St. Peter also pitched three innings in relief to get the win. Eric Dickinson and John Holabird each rapped two singles for Caribou.

The Shiretowners had forced extra innings with two runs in the seventh, including a clutch, two-out RBI single by freshman Corey Lewis. Jon Weston doubled and singled and Andy Brown singled twice.
