A woman from Madawaska was arrested for operating under the influence in Brewer early Wednesday.

Brewer police Sgt. Jason Moffitt said he was on patrol at about 1:20 a.m. when he saw a car run a blinking red light at State and North Main streets.

The car pulled into a gas station, where Moffitt spoke with the driver, Rose MacDonald, 23. Moffitt said MacDonald smelled of alcohol and showed signs of impairment. MacDonald performed poorly on sobriety tests, Moffitt said. He arrested MacDonald for operating under the influence and failure to stop for a flashing red light.

Moffitt said MacDonald was giving a ride to a friend with a suspended license.

A car burglary was discovered Wednesday in Bangor.

Bangor police Officer Dennis Lally said a North Main Street woman reported the CD player in her Mustang had been stolen some time in the past 10 days, while the car was parked in a Cedar Street parking lot. The woman said the thief must have cut the wrong wire because the car now doesn’t run.

A car and a van were totaled in Old Town on Tuesday afternoon after the car ran a stop sign.

Old Town police Officer Stephen Boyd said that at about 3:15 p.m. a Pontiac Sunbird on Oak Street went through a stop sign at Sixth Street, and was hit in the front end by a Chevrolet Lumina. Boyd said the Pontiac then hit a telephone pole. Both cars were totaled.

Both drivers and one passenger were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for minor injuries. Boyd said there are no charges at this time.

An East Millinocket man struck a moose in Long A Township on Tuesday night.

Maine State Trooper Barry Meserve said John Freil, 61, was driving south on Route 11 shortly before 9 p.m. when a moose calf stepped in front of his Lincoln Town Car.

The 500-pound calf went through Freil’s windshield, hit the steering wheel and then rolled back off the hood. “He’s a lucky fellow,” Meserve said of Freil, who was not injured.

Cash totaling $200 was reportedly stolen from a Bangor apartment Tuesday evening.

Bangor police Officer Rob Angelo said he went to a Forest Avenue apartment at about 5:30 p.m. for a burglary complaint. Angelo said the resident told him 10 $20 bills were missing from a bowl in his bedroom.

Angelo said the route the burglar would have had to take to get to the bowl, moving from the garage through a series of doors leading into the apartment, and then through several rooms, indicated the burglar was probably familiar with the terrain. Angelo noted that gold jewelry, electronics and other valuables were untouched.

An Orono man was summoned for theft after he admitted taking merchandise from Wal-Mart Tuesday morning.

Bangor police Officer Rob Angelo said he went to the store at about 10:30 a.m. for a theft complaint. On arrival he found Daniel Deschaine, 20, in the custody of store security.

Angelo said Deschaine admitted he took an oil filter from the store. Angelo summoned him for theft and released him.
