SANGERVILLE – A Sangerville couple was injured Tuesday when their vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle in front of the local post office.
Kenneth Healey, 19, had stopped to make a left turn into the post office off Route 23 when he was bumped from behind by a vehicle driven by Mary Dearborn, 74, of Guilford, according to Investigator Michael Gould of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department.
Dearborn told Gould that she had become distracted by a fly in her vehicle and had not seen Healey stop for the turn. She was not injured in the 12:18 p.m. accident, but Healey and his pregnant wife, Erica, 19, were taken by ambulance to Mayo Regional Hospital. Both were treated and released, Gould said. All three were wearing their seat belts, he said.
Damage to Healey’s 1987 Ford pickup truck was estimated at $500. Damage to Dearborn’s 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier was estimated at $5,500, according to the officer.
Assisting at the scene were Mayo Regional ambulance personnel and Sangerville firefighters.
