PORTLAND – Jorge De La Rosa pitched five strong innings as the Portland Sea Dogs defeated the Trenton Thunder 5-3 Wednesday in the Eastern League.
Jeremy Owens went 3-for-4 with a double and Trace Coquillette, Kelly Shoppach and Justin Sherrod also doubled for the Sea Dogs.
Bo Robinson had a two-run double for the Thunder.
After Andy Cannizaro’s RBI single put the Thunder (17-18) ahead 1-0 in the top of the first inning, Coquillette and Shoppach doubled in inning’s bottom half as Portland (20-13) rallied for three runs.
Sherrod’s double drove in two runs for Portland in the third, and Robinson’s double with two men on base closed the scoring in the eighth.
De La Rosa struck out six, walked four and gave up one run on one hit to improve his record to 3-2.
Portland has won four straight and leads the Northern Division.
