Hampden’s Pease shuts down Witches

HAMPDEN – John Higgins walked, stole second, advanced to third on a Blaine Meehan single, and scored on a wild pitch Thursday afternoon as the Hampden Academy baseball team edged Brewer 1-0 in 11 innings.

Chris Pease gave up a leadoff single on the first pitch of the game, but didn’t give up a hit the rest of the way. He fanned 15 and walked two. Kyle Dalton, who doubled, provided an inning of hitless relief. Kevin Brooks doubled and singled for Hampden.

Matt Sargent recorded the first-inning single for Brewer.

At Old Town, Josh Young fired a one-hitter, striking out 11 and walking four, and aided his cause with a two-run single.

Jordan Heath doubled home a third-inning run to give Bangor the lead for good. Andy Treadwell hit a solo homer in the fourth and Young’s two-run single keyed a five-run fifth-inning rally.

Nate Hall had two singles for the Rams, who avenged their only loss (1-0).

Kevin Emerson’s fourth-inning single was Old Town’s only hit.

At Calais, Jeremy Ham spaced eight hits, striking out 12 and walking four, and Gerry Worster paced Lee Academy’s 11-hit attack by doubling and singling and driving in four runs.

Ham helped his cause with two doubles and a single and two RBIs while Tyler Thompson and Nate Dow contributed a pair of singles apiece.

Scott Macdonald had two singles and two RBIs for Calais and Jon King had a double and an RBI.

At East Millinocket, Jesse Cram knocked in two runs on a two-out single as the Wolverines held off the Howlers.

Pat Jamo singled twice and had an RBI for Schenck. Jarrod Desantis tripled and Andy Baness earned an RBI on a groundout.

Jake Crosby doubled twice and had an RBI for Penobscot Valley of Howland. Garrett Lavertu tripled, singled and drove in a run.

At Orono, Dusty Thomas homered, doubled and singled in the Red Riots win over the Warriors.

At Milo, Matt Gardiner slammed a three-run home run and a single and the Lynx downed the Patriots.

Bill Kites doubled, singled and drove in two runs, while Nate Cousineau had three singles and drove in two runs. Dustin Pete had 13 strikeouts while walking three and giving up six hits for Mattanawcook of Lincoln.

Jordan Allen singled twice and drove in two runs while Andrew Walker singled in a run for Penquis.

At Belfast, John Ellis’ third inning grand slam helped the Lions jump out to a 9-0 as they rolled past the Eagles.

Jamie Potvin and Jesse Johnson had a double and run batted in apiece while Nick Faulkingham allowed four hits and struck out eight for Belfast.

Jason Hitchinson and Justin Smith doubled and had an RBI for Erskine Academy of South China.

Jeff Burditt led the Tigers with two singles.

At Hampden, Carolyn McAvoy struck two doubles and trove in a run and Christine Thoms smacked two doubles, a single and plated a run as the Witches scored five runs in the last two innings to corrall the Broncos.

Emily McLaughlin had a triple and two RBIs for Brewer. Rachel Wing doubled and Anna Corey singled, respectively.

Cheryl Morris had two singles and Ashley Ireland hit two singles and knocked in a run to lead Hampden. Amy Ryder and Danielle Billings had a single each.

At the Husson College field in Bangor, Gwen Wadleigh pitched a six-hitter, striking out eight and walking two, and Ashley Cluff knocked in two runs with a triple and a single to pace John Bapst of Bangor.

Jill Mitchell also had a triple and a single and she drove in one run.

Lauren Fournier had three singles for Hermon and Shannon Wiggin singled twice. Kristen Oakes pitched well in defeat, allowing six hits and three walks while striking out eight.

At Richmond, Sarah Coonradt tripled and pitched a complete game for the victorious Bobcats.

At Milo, the Patriots pounded out four straight singles in a five-run first inning and Arielle Sickler had a two-run single as Penquis knocked off Mattanawcook.

Jean Hamlin singled twice, Kylie Palmer doubled and Michelle Mulherin hit an RBI single. Dani Graves struck out seven.

Chelsey NiCastro paced the Lynx of Lincoln with three singles and an RBI. Kasse Brown singled twice and knocked in a run, and Kristi McKinnon hit two singles.

At Orono, Michelle Murray scored on Lindsey Welch’s two-out single to right field in the top of the eighth inning as the Warriors edged the Red Riots.

Amy Paradis had a double, single and RBI and Welch finished with two singles and a run batted in for Nokomis of Newport.

Michelle Nickerson had a double and an RBI and Baylee Cherkis singled in a run for Orono.

At Calais, Jamie Doliber hit a triple and a single for three RBIs to help give Calais the edge over Lee Academy.

Jessica Whittaker had an RBI on a double and a single while Alyssa Thomas and Chrissy Driscoll added two singles apiece.

Samantha Cole had two doubles and a single for and RBI while Jessie Kuester hit three singles for an RBI. Jackie Moors sent home two runners on a triple and a single.

At Harrington, Daphne Nichols’ two-run double in the fourth keyed a seven-run inning and the Raiders went on to the win over the Knights.

Nichols added a double, two singles and two more runs batted in to her total.

Erica Mann doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs, while Elise Dublin had a pair of doubles and Kiki Simmons picked up an RBI on two singles.

Jenna Kaler’s two singles and Cheryl Stevens’ two-run single paced Mount View.
