BUCKSPORT – Principal Tom Sullivan has announced the honor parts for the graduating Class of 2003 at Bucksport High School. Graduation will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, June 6, at the Ralph Jewett Gymnasium, Bucksport High School.
Tara Tweedie, daughter of David and Kelley Tweedie, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2003. She will attend the University of Maine to study biological engineering.
She was captain of the varsity soccer team and team, president of National Honor Society and class treasurer. She participated in varsity softball, varsity cheering, Students Against Drunk Driving, Student Council, the Student Leadership Aspirations Program, and managed the wrestling team. She was a Dirigo State nominee, placed first as a junior and senior in the Hancock-Washington Math League, and received the Principal’s Award, as well as being a National Merit Commended Scholar. Tara also was selected to serve as an intern at Mount Desert Island Biological Lab.
Brittany N. Damon, daughter of Steve and Denise Brown, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2003. She will attend the College of Engineering at Northeastern University.
She was a member of the Student Leadership Aspirations Team, Students Against Drunk Driving, Nutrition Advisory Council, Math Team, Yearbook, softball, basketball, vice-president of Student Council, and captain of soccer. She was selected for Dirigo Girls State and attended the National Student Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.
First honor essayist is Kristen Spalding, daughter of Kenneth and Candice Spalding. She will attend Colby College in the fall.
She was the vice president of the National Honor Society and spent much time volunteering with second- and third-graders at the Miles Lane School. She was accepted and attended the New England Young Writers’ Conference at Middlebury College, was delegated to the Haystack Art School in Deer Isle and was delegated to Dirigo Girls State.
Second honor essayist is Jordan Wingate, son of Scott and Michelle Wingate. He will attend Purdue University and study aviation technology.
He was a member of Students Against Drunk Drivers, National Honor Society, the Outing Club, and partook in Dirigo Boys State. He participated in the varsity golf and basketball teams, as a co-captain for the basketball team, was selected for the Big East Conference All-Star Team, and received the conference Academic Award.
