BREWER – The Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners piled up 43 runs in two games to sweep the Katahdin Cougars 22-9 and 21-12 in high school softball action Saturday.

In the first game, Meghan Wiberg and Hollan Oliver led the Mariners with three singles each and Lacy Greenlaw had two.

Shelly Martin, Lindsay Albert, and Jessica Green had a single and a double apiece for Katahdin. Brandi Violette rapped two singles.

In the second game, Heather Hutchinson and Regyn Lawrey hit three singles each for the winners.

Heather Gray, Greenlaw, and Oliver contributed two singles each for the Mariners.

K.C. Duffy-Stanley tripled and singled for the Cougars, and Albert stroked four singles.

Machias 17, East Grand 5

At Machias, run-scoring doubles by Eileen Alley and Lindsey Marshall and run-scoring singles by Monique St. Pierre and Lindsey Cherry keyed a seven-run second-inning rally that broke the game open.

Christi Holmes had a double and three singles for Machias while Cherry, Jillian Whitney and Alley contributed a double and two singles apiece. Alley and Cherry had two RBIs each while Whitney and Holmes had one.

Ashley Whitman scattered five hits for the win. Ryanne Flannery had two singles and an RBI for East Grand.

At Ellsworth, Krystal Roberts had two triples, a single, and drove in five runs in the Eagles’ win over the Hawks.

Holly Tripp added a pair of singles for Ellsworth.

Ericka Joy tripled, Leslie Kinghorn doubled, and Lauren Fournier had a run-scoring single for Hermon.

At Mount Desert, Bracey Barker fired a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and three walks as the Trojans finished off the sweep 10-0.

MDI won the opener 12-2 behind Nia Megquier’s six-hitter.

In the second game, Barker belted a two-run triple in the three-run first inning to aid her cause.

Barker also had a single; Jessica Norwood doubled and singled and drove in two runs and Jaime Daugherty singled twice.

Baylee Cherkis doubled and Michelle Benoit singled for the Red Riots.

In the first game, MDI unleashed a 16-hit attack led by Barker’s triple, double and two singles and Abbie Chapman’s double and three singles.

Caroline Woodworth and Stephanie Shuster chipped in with two singles each.,

Emily Sypher had a double and two singles for Orono.

At East Sullivan, Elise Dublin had a triple, a double, and drove in two runs as the Knights got by the Tigers.

Missy Barbee had a double and three singles, and Brook Courchain doubled, singled twice, and drove in two runs for Narraguagus of Harrington.

Lauren Robinson tripled, singled, and had two RBIs, while Meghan Ruhlin had three singles and Jessie Daley singled twice for Sumner.

Bapst sweeps Presque Isle

At Husson College in Bangor, the host Crusaders rallied from a 5-3 deficit by tallying five runs in the sixth inning to take the first game of a doubleheader with Presque Isle 8-5. John Bapst won the nightcap 18-9.

In the first game, Heather Laferriere led off the sixth with a single, then was doubled home by Rebecca Stevens, one of two doubles and two RBIs in the opener for her. After Ashley Cluff scored Stevens with a single, Megan Brown doubled, putting runners on second and third. Kim Meagher and Julia Sleeper hit back-to-back doubles to cap the scoring.

Bailly Horey led the way for the Wildcats with two doubles, two singles, and two RBIs.

In the second game, Stevens doubled three times and knocked in two runs.

Brown racked up three singles and a double and knocked in a run for John Bapst, and Meagher singled four times and drove in a pair.

Shawna Nedeau led Presque Isle’s attack with four singles and an RBI. Hovey laced an RBI double, and Abby Hamel doubled, singled, and plated a run.

At East Sullivan, Dylan Johnson pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts and singled in a run to go along with a double as the Tigers rolled.

Jay Huber had a double and knocked in two runs for the winners. Trevor Renwick singled, doubled and plated two runs, A.J. Pennartz hit an RBI single, and Matt Smith added a double, single and RBI.

Sean Reynolds had three singles for the Knights of Harrington.

At Machias, Nate Poore hit a grand slam in the fourth inning to lead Machias past East Grand.

Todd Stevens hit a double and three singles with two RBIs for Machias. Ed St. Pierre had a double and two singles and Scott Brokaw hit a pair of singles.

Scott Flannery hit a three-run home run for East Grand and Chris Irish hit two singles.

DI-Stonington sweeps Katahdin

At Brewer, Evan Haskell and Jeff Douglas combined to shut out Katahdin in a doubleheader, 26-0 and 13-0.

In the first game Haskell pitched a five-inning shutout and added two singles and a double as the Mariners sailed past Katahdin.

Ian Martin notched three singles and an RBI for the winners. Nick Ciomei tripled, singled and knocked in a run, Josh Eaton singled three times, doubled and plated two runs, Joe Trundy connected for two singles and two RBIs, and Lance Ciomei added two singles.

Pat Willett hit two singles for the Cougars of Sherman Station.

In the second game, Douglas tossed a one-hitter, while striking out eight and walking two.

Anthony Barbato had a double and a single, Trundy had three singles and two RBI and Chris Gray drove in three runs on a double and a single.

Cam Cunningham had a single in the third inning for Katahdin.

At Ellsworth, Jon Hunnewell’s two-run single keyed a four-run third inning when the Eagles took control of the game.

Hunnewell finished the game with three RBIs, Nick Putnam had two singles and Asa Jones drove in a run with a triple.

Nate Ellis doubled and drove in a run and Ron Lane collected an RBI on a single.

Bapst, Presque Isle split

At the Winkin Complex in Bangor, the visiting Wildcats got a clutch hit in the seventh to edge John Bapst 5-4 in the first game and then Bapst used a three-run inning to key a 5-1 victory in the second Saturday.

In the first game, Chad Lavway drew a one-out walk, stole second, and then scored on a throwing error to provide the winning run for the Wildcats.

R.J. Gagnon was 2-for-3 with a double, a single and an RBI for the Wildcats.

Brian Roach had two singles for the Crusaders.

In the second game, Alex Means threw a five-hitter and had a triple and two singles to lead the Crusaders to victory.

Dan Leighton hit a two-run double in the third and had three total RBIs. Pat Healy singled twice.

Lavway singled twice for PI.

Mattanawcook sweeps PVHS

At Mansfield Stadium, Bangor, Andy McLellan hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning of the second game to lead Mattanawcook to the 15-0 win. The Lynx of Lincoln also took the first game 10-0.

In the first game, McLellan hit three single with three RBIs for Mattanawcook. Andrew Kites doubled and single to knock in a run and Tyler Libbey had two single.

Josh Ireland and Nick Ware each hit a single for Penobscot Valley.

In the second game, Tyler Gardner and Steven Whitney both hit two singles to knock in four runs for the Lynx. Kites had three singles with a RBI and Nathan Cousineau hit a pair of singles with two RBIs.

Matt Cummings hit two singles for Penobscot Valley as Brody Artes and Josh Ireland each singled.

At Millinocket, Adam Qualey scattered four runs on seven hits, striking out nine in a complete-game effort for the Minutemen.

Dave Michaud and Ryan Bouchard each had a two-run single for Stearns, and Matt Leino added two singles.

Joey Kane laced an RBI triple to lead the Red Devils of Corinth and James Gray singled, doubled and knocked in a run.

At East Millinocket, Aaron Waite scattered six hits over seven innings, struck out nine batters, and walked none to help lead Schenck to the win over Penquis of Milo.

Foxcroft Acad. sweeps Caribou

At Dover-Foxcroft, Josh Withee threw a perfect game with 14 strikeouts to lead Foxcroft Academy to the 3-0 win in the first game. The Ponies came from behind to take the second game 9-8.

In the First Game, Danny White had a RBI triple for Foxcroft Academy. Jason Weymouth tripled and scored a run. Adam Conway hit a double and a sacrifice fly and scored a run and Jason Pelletier hit a RBI single.

In the Second Game, Shawn Grass scored the game winning run for the Ponies in the bottom of the seventh inning when Caribou took the force out at second and Grass scored.

Caleb Pelletier knocked in the winning run and he tripled and singled with three RBIs. Brandon Croan had two singles with three RBIs and Jason Weymouth had a triple and a single with a RBI. Withee tripled and singled and Danny White hit a pair of singles to knock in a run. Ethan Annis hit two singles.

Justin Selvridge had two doubles and a single with two RBIs for Caribou. John Chasse hit two singles with two RBIs and Corey Johnston had a RBI double. Andrew Cashman doubled and scored a run.

Zack Austin chipped in with a double, two singles and two RBIs for the winners and Adam Anderson added a double, single and RBI. Mike Lopez contributed two singles and an RBI.

J.J. Pinette doubled twice and had an RBI for Fort Kent and Tyler Marquis added two singles.
